To assist students in effectively using the bibliography and reference management software, EndNote, the Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau, in collaboration with the library, organized an EndNote software training seminar for undergraduate students on October 10th. The seminar was conducted by Ms. Zheng Jiayuan and Ms. Wen Huitong from the City University of Macau Library, who introduced EndNote X9 software to the students and provided a detailed explanation of the entire research process, from collecting, organizing, reading, analyzing, writing, participating, to enhancing scientific research, and manuscript submission. Vice Dean Ms. Kuang Wanhua from the Faculty of Finance attended the seminar as a guest.
EndNote is an efficient bibliography and reference management software. Ms. Zheng Jiayuan and Ms. Wen Huitong primarily focused on four aspects: literature importation, management, formatting, and manuscript submission. They carefully demonstrated each step of creating a personal library and setting up a personal account, providing on-the-spot software demonstrations. The seminar covered four commonly used methods for literature importation: database website importation, local literature importation, online retrieval importation, and manual input. Practical demonstrations were shared for each importation method, leaving a clear impression of each step in the students' minds. The instructors then explained how to manage literature, including literature synchronization, grouping, obtaining full-text articles, searching and analyzing specific topic literature, and literature sharing. They also provided a detailed demonstration of reference formatting and citation management in Word. Regarding manuscript submission, they recommended using the submission matching feature provided by the Word plugin.
The students expressed their gratitude for the well-organized training and the information provided by the City University of Macau Library regarding literature management. They also appreciated the guidance provided by Ms. Zheng Jiayuan and Ms. Wen Huitong. The students felt that the university's resources were abundant and that the training greatly assisted them in their research and thesis writing. They benefited greatly from the seminar and expressed their anticipation for future training sessions to further enhance their academic research and exploration.
