2023-2024 Faculty of Finance Salon [6] "Adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Earnings Management"

The Faculty of Finance at the City University of Macau held the sixth academic salon (2023-2024) on November 24, 2023, at the Taipa Campus in Room L311. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Jin Zhao from the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. Dr. Jin Zhao delivered a lecture on his research paper titled "Adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Earnings Management," which explores the impact of the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) on corporate earnings management. The paper showed that companies with a higher adoption rate of artificial intelligence are less likely to have financial reporting errors related to fraud. This research highlights the role of artificial intelligence in shaping corporate financial reporting.

 

Dr. Jin Zhao obtained his Ph.D. in Finance from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. His research interests include entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions. His research on artificial intelligence has been published in a top-ranked finance journal, the Journal of Finance, and has been reported by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Tencent News. During this academic salon, Dr. Jin Zhao shared his latest research findings with professors and students of the Faculty of Finance, City University of Macau, contributing to the advancement of academic development in the Faculty of Finance.

 

The Academic Salon organized by the Faculty of Finance at the City University of Macau serves as a platform for exchanging academic ideas and fostering academic awareness. With finance as the main focus, we invite senior experts from academia and the financial industry to engage in research discussions on cutting-edge topics and share industry development trends, aiming to provide a fresh academic experience and thinking model for CityU students and members of the faculty. Through activities like the Academic Salon, we hope to offer graduate students a better academic platform, encouraging further exploration and research on academic issues.
