In an effort to provide students with insights into the evolving demands of the job market, empower them to shape their careers and enhance their competitiveness in the job market, the Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau organized a seminar titled "Dialogue: How to Build International Employment Advantages" at the Ho Yin Convention Center on Taipa Campus on February 28, 2024. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Mr. Timothy Leung Chi Wai, Deputy General Manager of Banco Comercial Português Macau Branch and Head of Asia Desk at Portugal Headquarters of Banco Comercial Português, and Mr. Derio Chan , Chairman of the China Europe International Business Association, along with Professor Adrian Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau, who shared insights from their respective experiences with students regarding career planning and post-graduation development paths.

During the forum, Mr. Timothy Leung shed light on the hiring process at the Macau Branch of Banco Comercial Português, emphasizing the importance of foreign language proficiency and a global perspective, in addition to professional financial knowledge. He stressed the need for new hires to demonstrate their abilities in diverse work environments, contributing value to the bank's international market development.  He encouraged students to actively participate in practical projects and internships during their academic tenure, fostering a well-rounded skill set for a "specialized yet versatile" approach.

Mr. Derio Chan highlighted the current challenges in the job market, emphasizing that critical positions now require a balance between domestic and international considerations. New hires should possess not only professional skills but also experiences such as studying or living in the target foreign countries. Proficiency in foreign languages and the ability to navigate international markets while integrating high-tech and artificial intelligence are deemed important for maximizing benefits for companies. In conclusion, he emphasized that establishing job-seeking advantages depends on aligning with the current trend of international development across various industries.

Dean Adrian Cheung mentioned that internships and collaborative projects between universities provide students with numerous practical opportunities. However, the effectiveness of seizing these opportunities for personal improvement and development is contingent on students' understanding of their future and their maturity level.  Acknowledging that some students may feel confused about their employment prospects, Dean Cheung assured that the faculty will continue to strengthen communication with the industry, providing students with more employment support and practical platforms. He encouraged students to participate in courses jointly organized by the university and overseas institutions to broaden their international perspectives and enhance their competitiveness in the job market.

Guests present at the forum included Dean José Alves of the Faculty of Business, and Dean Cheng Liying of the School of Education, both from City University of Macau.

Following the forum, Mr. Derio Chan provided detailed information about the City University of Macau - University of Coimbra Advanced Diploma Program.
