Congratulations! CityU Faculty of Business, Faculty of Finance earn international BGA Gold Accreditations

The City University of Macau (CityU) is proud to announce that the Faculty of Business (FOB) and the Faculty of Finance (FOF) have both achieved the BGA Gold status, respectively, awarded by the Business Graduates Association (BGA), a leading global quality assurance organization for business education. These accreditations demonstrate the high quality, high standards, professionalism, and international focus of our programs. FOB has maintained its Gold status for four consecutive years, while FOF achieved the Gold status for its professional curricula this year, after earning three consecutive years of Silver status. FOB Dean José Alves and FOF Associate Dean Eva Khong Yueng Wah attended the three-day AMBA & BGA Global Conference in Budapest, Hungary.

The annual conference was a collaborative effort between the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Business Graduates Association. It discussed the evolution of MBA curricula and teaching methods, the use of artificial intelligence in education, maximizing social impact, transforming MBA education through technology, new technologies for sustainability and climate change, including the application of ChatGPT in teaching. Dean José Alves spoke about the “Real-World Impact of Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Business Education” at a panel discussion on “Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development: Silk Road Network.”

BGA is a leading global membership and quality assurance organization for high-potential business schools. It focuses on enhancing the impact of business schools on students and communities, fostering a new generation of socially responsible leaders. BGA collaborates with leading academics from top educational institutions worldwide to continually refine its accreditation standards. It maintains a highly internationalized and scientific approach to accreditation, ensuring that high-quality educational institutions receive authoritative evaluations.

The evaluation team, comprised of senior business school leaders from around the globe, highly commended CityU’s Faculty of Business and Faculty of Finance for their efforts in building a strong leadership team, developing an internationalization strategy, refining the teaching assistant system, focusing on student sustainability, and working in line with the accreditation team during their site visit.

Speaking of these achievements, Rector Jun Liu commented that the earning of the BGA Gold accreditations signify the vital role these faculties play in student development, industry engagement, societal progress, and higher education; it demonstrates CityU’s robust teaching capabilities in business and finance; furthermore, this achievements reflect CityU’s long-standing commitment to quality assurance, the development of distinctive academic programs, faculty development, and the sound industry-academia educational model. Rector Liu highlighted these commitments have resulted in continuous progress and achievements, aligning with Macao’s economic diversification strategy of “1+4” and promoting the development of the financial industry and Macao’s role as a platform for the trade between China and Portuguese. “These accreditations propel CityU forward on its path towards international accreditation and internationalization,” said Rector Liu.
