On the afternoon of November 12, 2020, the Faculty of Finance held the “40th Anniversary of City University of Macau Finance Seminar Series [5]” at the He Xian Conference Center. This seminar invited Mr. Zeng Junming, Manager of Macao Branch of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd as guest speaker, and his speech theme was " The Meaning & Function of Insurance ". Among the guests present at the event were Mr. Lai Yunchao, Sales Director of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd. Macau Branch, Mr. Jin Ling, Head of Comprehensive Management Department, and Mr. Jin Chaohui, Branch Manager, Mr. Lim Baoguo, Deputy General Manager of Corporate Banking Department of China Guangfa Bank Macau Branch, Dean Adrian Cheung and Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah.
In the seminar, Mr. Zeng Junming firstly explained from a macro perspective that the insurance industry is becoming a stabilizer of the society and a booster of the economy under the strong support of national policies. Secondly, he popularized the meaning and function of insurance through the comparison of the good wishes of life and the risks of real life, and used three different cases of "Jiangsu Kindergarten Explosion", "Guizhou Coal Mine Gas Burning Accident", and "Macao Typhoon Tiange Natural Disaster Accident" to highlight the ubiquity of risks and stress the importance of insurance as the best choice for transferring risks in life. Finally, Mr. Zeng shared his views on the importance of insurance. He believes that insurance plays a very important role for the country, society, enterprises and individuals.
The students focused on the guest's narration and actively asked questions in the interactive session. Mr. Lai Yunchao, Sales Director of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd. Macau Branch, then gave a speech. He first exploited the extent students’ knowledge of insurance are, and then explained the difference between insurance and banks, securities, and trusts from different perspectives. The students participated actively and had a deepened knowledge and understanding of insurance.
On behalf of all the teachers and students of the Faculty, Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah thanked the guests for their wonderful speeches. Through this seminar, the students appreciated and understood the meaning and various functions of insurance. Based on the university’s teaching philosophy of combining “enterprise, learning, and research”, the Faculty of Finance arranged students to apply the theoretical knowledge of insurance into practice in many ways. Finally, she thanked China Life Insurance, China Guangfa Bank for their long-term close cooperation with the Faculty of Finance, and for providing CityU students with valuable financial practice sharing, visits and summer study opportunities. She looks forward to guests coming to CityU again for further guidance and exchanges.
