【40th Anniversary of City University of Macau Finance Seminar Series】Conversations with Banking Elites

 The Faculty of Finance held the second session of the "City University of Macau 40th Anniversary Financial Lecture Series" on the afternoon of October 19, 2020. The event, titled "Dialogue with Banking and Insurance Elites," invited Mr. Lai Yunchao, Sales Director of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd. Macau Branch, Mr. Tsang Chunming, Manager of the Individual Agency Department, Mr. Cao Jiarong, Branch Manager, Mr. Jin Chaohui, Business Manager, as well as Mr. Ho Tung Bun, General Manager of the Banking Department, and Mr. Lam Po Kwo, Deputy General Manager of the Macau Branch of Guangfa Bank, as guests. They engaged in interactive discussions with first and second-year students of the Financial Elite Program of our college, exploring the current situation and future development of the finance, banking, and insurance industries. The students seized the opportunity to actively ask questions to the guests, and the venue was filled with applause and lively discussions.

During the exchange, Mr. Lai Yunchao, Sales Director of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd. Macau Branch, shared with the students his own experiences and the various difficulties he encountered during his university life and career development. He empathized with the challenges and confusion faced during the early stages of university, as well as the challenges encountered during the learning process. He also delved into the topic of how to excel as an insurance agent, encouraging the students to not only obtain certifications in insurance, wealth management, and financial planning but also combine practical application and hands-on experience. He emphasized the importance of trying to gain frontline experience during internships, as it would be beneficial for future careers in the financial industry.

    

 

Mr. Tsang Chunming, Manager of the Macau Branch of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd., provided a detailed introduction and answered questions about the distinctions and characteristics of the financial industry in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau to the students. Using daily living expenses as an example, he discussed methods and the importance of financial planning, giving the students a deeper understanding of the development of the financial industry.

    

 

    

Mr. Jin Chaohui, Manager of the Macau Branch of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Co., Ltd., shared his years of work experience with the students and advised them to acquire a good understanding of finance-related knowledge, such as economics, law, and more. He also encouraged them to actively participate in social activities and utilize their winter and summer breaks to intern in corporate organizations.

 

Mr. Ho Tung Bun, General Manager of the Macau Branch of Guangfa Bank, emphasized the importance of knowledge accumulation. He advised the students to absorb diverse information in areas such as current affairs, sports, entertainment, and finance, broadening their horizons and developing different interests that would facilitate interaction with others. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of acquiring various information from society to expand their knowledge beyond theoretical knowledge from textbooks. He encouraged the students to face challenges during their academic journey and cultivate their problem-solving skills. He also welcomed the students to intern at institutions like China Life Insurance and Guangfa Bank in the future.

During the two-hour dialogue, the guest speakers patiently answered the students' questions, providing them with a clearer understanding of the current development and prospects of the finance, banking, and insurance industries in Macau and globally. This knowledge will help the students determine their future career paths. The Faculty of Finance will continue to organize similar activities in the future, inviting professionals from the finance industry to interact and engage in discussions with the students of the Financial Elite Program.
