CityU Macau Faculty of Finance Organizes Postgraduate Studies Navigation Seminar to Empower Students in Future Planning
The event commenced with an opening speech by Professor Adrian Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance. Dean Cheung emphasized the critical importance of experience sharing, noting that during his own student years, such opportunities for direct guidance from predecessors were extremely rare. He encouraged students to cherish the selfless contributions of their seniors and to integrate these practical insights into their own academic and career planning to avoid common pitfalls and progress more steadily toward their goals.。
Following the Dean’s remarks, Associate Professor Deqin Lin, the Bachelor of Applied Economics Programme Coordinator, addressed the audience. He noted that the Faculty specifically invited eight outstanding graduating seniors representing both the Finance and Economics majors. Professor Lin highlighted that approximately half of the attendees were juniors facing imminent decisions about postgraduate studies, while the remainder were freshmen and sophomores seeking early guidance—a clear reflection of the proactive attitude CityU students maintain toward their future planning.
During the sharing session, the eight graduating seniors provided in-depth analyses covering various topics, including postgraduate entrance examination preparation, timeline planning, application strategies, core interview techniques, and personal study tips. Notably, this group of graduates achieved exceptional admission results from top-tier universities worldwide, spanning Macau, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States (including the University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Manchester, the University of Bristol, and New York University, among others). By combining their personal experiences with practical advice, they provided a valuable "navigation map" for their junior counterparts.
The subsequent interactive segment brought the event to a climax. The junior students seized this rare opportunity to consult with seniors based on their specific areas of interest. The venue was filled with vibrant and professional discussions. Beyond the consultations, many students proactively exchanged contact information with their seniors to facilitate deeper communication and mentorship in the future.
This seminar served as more than just an information exchange; it was a relay of the Faculty’s spirit and heritage. Participating students expressed that the sharing was both professionally profound and highly practical, effectively alleviating their anxieties regarding postgraduate applications and providing a clear direction for execution. The event concluded successfully amidst enthusiastic interaction, laying a solid foundation for the future excellence of CityU Macau Faculty of Finance students.
