Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macau held the “Summer Financial Experiential Learning Sharing Session” on August 27, 2026, at Ho Yin Conference Center on Taipa Campus. Distinguished guests attending the event included Mr. Shenrong Yang, Deputy Director of the Bank of China Macau Branch, Dr. Yingying Wang, Manager of the Human Resources Department Training and Corporate Culture Department, Ms. Weng Si Chan, Assistant Supervisor of the Human Resources Department, both from the Luso International Banking, Mr. Yuanlong Wu, General Manager of the Corporate Banking Department of China Construction Bank; as well as Dean Adrian Cheung and Associate Dean Eva Khong from Faculty of Finance of City University of Macau.
Dean Adrian Cheung warmly welcomed the guests from the Bank of China Macau Branch, Luso International Banking, and China Construction Bank, and expressed sincere gratitude to each bank for their years of active support in providing valuable summer experiential learning opportunities for students. Dean Cheung emphasized in his speech that the integration of “industry, academia, and research” is a key feature that distinguishes the Faculty of Finance from traditional teaching models. He pointed out that the University not only imparts textbook knowledge but also places great emphasis on maintaining continuous communication with the industry, enabling students to directly face real-world challenges and then explore solutions from an academic perspective. This experiential learning approach is precisely the new teaching methodology that the Faculty aims to bring to its students. The event was designed to summarize the valuable experiences students gained during their summer experiential learning at financial institutions and, through peer sharing, to further the Faculty’s advocated “industry-academia-research” experiential teaching method. He encouraged everyone to actively participate in more similar practical activities in the future and to continuously enhance their professional competitiveness. During the summer experiential learning program, 5 students interned at the Corporate and Financial Institutions Business Department and the Business Center of the Bank of China Macau Branch; 5 students interned at the Guangzhou Branch, Hangzhou Branch, Dongguan Sub-branch, and Foshan Sub-branch of Luso International Banking; 3 students learned at the Macau Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China; and 1 student interned at the Zhuhai Branch of China Construction Bank. Dean Cheung stated that the Faculty will continue to deepen its cooperation with the industry, build more bridges connecting campus and workplace for students, provide more experiential learning opportunities, and encourage students to keep working hard in their studies.
During the experience-sharing session, student representatives presented their experiential learning reflections and learning outcomes to the Faculty and corporate leaders through presentations. The first group to share comprised 5 students—Qizong Zeng, Yilin Jiang, Zihan Liu, Jingqi Tang, and Yixin Zhao who learned at the Business Center and the Corporate and Financial Institutions Department of the Bank of China Macau Branch. Deputy Director Shenrong Yang of the Bank of China Macau Branch highly praised the Faculty of Finance’s industry-academia-research educational philosophy and gave full recognition to the students’ professional competence and learning abilities demonstrated during their internships. Director Yang noted in his speech that the students’ presentations gave him multiple impressions: first, the students had carefully prepared their slides, detailing their internship positions, departments, learning content, and reflections; second, they showcased the outstanding overall quality of City University of Macau students; third, they demonstrated their capacity for continuous learning, including insights gained and future study directions; and fourth, they exhibited their ability to apply knowledge to practice. He particularly pointed out that, judging by the internship arrangements for the students, the Bank of China had allocated its finest teams and resources, including the Corporate Department and the Bank of China Hotel Team, among other versatile departments, allowing students to gain comprehensive exposure to both corporate and retail banking, thus fully reflecting the Bank’s emphasis on talent development. Deputy Director Yang concluded his remarks by summarizing his impressions with “three ones”: one carefully prepared presentation, each student’s personal growth and learning journey, and a reflection of the University’s dedicated teaching approach. He wished the Faculty of Finance’s professional education model continued success. Finally, Director Yang thanked the students for their hard work during the internships, stating that they had contributed to Macau’s banking industry, and expressed hope for deeper university-enterprise cooperation in the future to cultivate more financial professionals.
Next, students Xiyu Li, Ruizhe Zhong, Xintian Zhang, Zongyou Shao, and Yinnan Huang, who learned at the Guangzhou Branch, Hangzhou Branch, Dongguan Sub-branch, and Foshan Sub-branch of Luso International Banking, shared their experiential learning experiences. Dr. Yingying Wang, Manager of Training and Corporate Culture Section, Human Resources Department of the Head Office of Luso International Banking, noted that this year marked the fourth collaboration between Luso International Banking and the Faculty of Finance of City University of Macau. 5 outstanding students were selected to intern at the Guangzhou Branch, Foshan Sub-branch, Dongguan Sub-branch, and Hangzhou Branch, where they quickly integrated into frontline market operations and performed exceptionally well, embodying the University’s motto of “Virtue, Erudition, and Practice”. Dr. Wang praised the students for demonstrating the daring, enterprising, and collaborative spirit of City University students through their actions, and offered this encouragement: “Today’s completion of the internship is not an end, but a brand-new starting point for your careers”. Since the establishment of the Faculty of Finance in 2018, both sides have signed multiple strategic agreements, propelling university-enterprise cooperation from “broad exchanges” toward “deep integration”. Dr. Wang looked forward to continued deeper collaboration between the university and enterprise in the future, cultivating more outstanding talent for Macau’s higher education and the nation’s financial development.
Subsequently, student He Liu shared his experiential learning experience at the Zhuhai Branch of China Construction Bank. Mr. Yuanlong Wu, General Manager of the Corporate Banking Department of China Construction Bank, expressed that every time he steps onto the City University campus, he feels deeply inspired by the vibrant development of the city’s financial industry and the youthful energy of its students, and he gave high praise to the overall quality of City University students. General Manager Wu shared three key workplace insights with the students: First, learn how to balance approachability with professionalism to gain more important tasks and growth opportunities. He reminded the students that strength is the only true measure, and completing work with quality and on time is a basic requirement. Second, General Manager Wu emphasized that whether writing reports or conducting market research, thoroughness and meticulousness are essential. He further pointed out that after more than a decade in the industry, judging clients cannot rely solely on financial statements; it also requires “intuition” based on comprehensive experience—including observing entrepreneurs’ development trajectories, studying industry trends, and assessing the impact of national policies. He encouraged students to make good use of tools like AI but stressed the importance of continuous summarization and deep thinking to achieve qualitative leaps. Third, he advised students to choose positions based on personal interests, urging them to select work they truly enjoy so they can derive genuine happiness and a sense of achievement from it. General Manager Wu concluded by saying that transitioning from campus to society marks a critical psychological turning point, where there is no longer the attentive care of teachers, but only the demonstration of one’s own abilities. He encouraged students to cherish their internship opportunities and, regardless of their future roles, to adopt a down-to-earth attitude from day one, accumulating experience and honing their thinking through practical work, thereby contributing to the financial development of Macau and the nation.
The experience-sharing session concluded with presentations by students Junxi Liang, Deyu Xue, and Zijing Pan, who learned at the Macau Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China. During the sharing session, the student representatives demonstrated rich practical gains. The internship participants expressed that through deep immersion in various bank departments and business lines, they gained a comprehensive understanding of financial institutions’ operational models and management systems. During the internships, students not only deepened their professional knowledge but also accumulated critical competencies in client communication and service, teamwork and coordination, adaptability, and problem-solving on the front lines. They successfully translated classroom theory into practical operations and gained valuable experience through exchanges and cooperation with personnel from different departments and levels, significantly enhancing their communication and collaboration skills.
Finally, Associate Dean Eva Khong, on behalf of the Faculty of Finance, delivered a vote of thanks. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Bank of China Macau Branch, Luso International Banking, the Macau Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China, and China Construction Bank for providing valuable experiential learning slots for the summer experiential learning program, and thanked the bank supervisors for their guidance to the students. She acknowledged the banks for building an excellent platform that integrates theory and practice for students. She also expressed appreciation to the bank representatives for their precise and insightful feedback, which provided much valuable guidance. At the same time, she thanked the students for their active participation and diligent efforts, and expressed her hope that the students would carry back to campus everything they learned during their bank internships—the banking spirit of “integrity, professionalism, and responsibility”—and transform it into momentum for their continued future progress, living up to the high expectations of their banking mentors. Looking ahead, the Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macau will continue to deepen cooperation with major financial institutions, build higher-quality industry-academia-research practice platforms, expand more career opportunities for students, and jointly cultivate internationally competitive financial talent for Macau and the nation.
