Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau and Banco Well Link, S.A. discuss the cultivation of financial talent

On the morning of 26 May 2021, the Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macau (CityU Macau) and Banco Well Link, S.A. (WLB) held an exchange and cooperation meeting on the Main (Taipa) Campus. The meeting was attended by representatives of WLB including Executive Director Cai Kunshan, Retail Banking Director Edward Xu and Manager Huang Shaoxuan, as well as Dean Cheung Wai Kong and Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah of the Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau.

Dean Cheung Wai Kong extended a warm welcome to the WLB delegation and gave a detailed introduction to the structure, establishment background, curriculum, enrolment, teaching philosophy and faculty members of the Faculty of Finance. Dean Cheung pointed out that the Faculty shoulders the responsibility and actively cooperates with the Macao SAR Government to promote the construction of the financial services platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and the development of the modern financial centre. He also said that the Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau, as the first Faculty of Finance in Macao awarded Silver status validation by the Business Graduates Association (BGA), proves the high quality, high standard, professionalism and internationalisation of CityU Macau’s programmes. By collaborating with renowned foreign universities, the Faculty will provide students with a diversified learning experience, strengthen their international perspectives and enhance their competitiveness. Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah introduced the programmes jointly organised by the Faculty and different financial enterprises in the past, and presented the Faculty’s teaching achievements in cooperation with industries, universities and research institutions. She then introduced the achievements of the IARFC programme and shared the concept, development and training plan of the programme. She pointed out that the programme, with the cooperation of the Macau Institute of Financial Services (IFS) and the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants (IARFC) Hong Kong and Macau Centre, has been running for seven years and nurturing talent for the industry, and she welcomed WLB to recommend and encourage outstanding employees to enrol in the programme. Associate Dean Khong also mentioned that the two parties could explore plans such as co-hosting financial seminars, conducting joint financial research between the Bank and teachers and students of the University, as well as carrying out summer and pre-employment training programmes for students, in an effort to cultivate financial professionals and contribute to the financial services industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Mr Cai Kunshan, Executive Director of WLB, shared the background, development and progress, as well as the corporate culture of WLB. He expressed his belief that the establishment of the Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau will play a role in the talent cultivation in Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With the development of Macao’s financial services industry, there will be an increasing demand for professionals and senior employees in the industry. Mr Cai expressed his hope that WLB will cooperate with the Faculty of Finance in the cultivation of future financial elites, so as to ensure the sustainable development of Macao’s financial services industry and contribute to Macao’s economic diversification.

In the meeting, the two parties deepened mutual understanding and cooperation and conducted an extensive discussion on jointly fostering financial talent in Macao, inviting WLB senior management to CityU Macau for academic exchanges, talks and experience sharing sessions, carrying out summer internship programmes, establishing a research and study platform, as well as enrolling WLB employees in the Faculty of Finance’s programmes for further studies and training. Through the meeting, the two sides hope to lay a solid foundation for a long-term cooperative relationship in the future and contribute to the development of the industry.
