The Faculty of Business and Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macau (CityU Macau) were accredited with Gold status and Silver status respectively by the Business Graduates Association (BGA), a leading global quality assurance institution in business education. Both are the first to be awarded such accreditation in Macao, testifying to the high quality, high standard, professionalism and internationalisation of the University’s programs.
BGA is an international membership and quality assurance body of world-leading and high-potential business schools. It focuses on increasing the impact of business schools on students and communities in order to cultivate socially conscious and responsible leaders. BGA works with senior academics at top educational institutions around the world to update accreditation criteria continuously and maintain a highly internationalised and scientific approach to ensure that high-quality educational institutions receive authoritative evaluation. The panel of assessors, comprising senior business school leaders from across the globe, commended the Faculty of Business and Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau for their strong and authoritative leadership, internationalisation development plan, improvement of the teaching assistant system, emphasis on the sustainable development of students and cooperation with the accreditation team’s visits. Rector Jun Liu said that the award of BGA Gold status accreditation and Silver status validation respectively to the Faculty of Business and Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau on the one hand reflected their contributions to students, communities, industries and higher education, demonstrating the University’s strength in teaching business and finance, and, on the other hand, showed the achievements that the University had made in the quality assurance of its programs, development of featured disciplines, enhancement of its teaching team and the formation of learning models, signifying another step forward for CityU Macau on its path of international accreditation for and internationalisation of programs. Rector Jun Liu hoped that in the future, the two Faculties will continue to give full play to the special characteristics of their programs and teaching, attract more students from home and abroad and continue to cultivate outstanding talent.
The Faculty of Business of CityU Macau aims to cultivate interdisciplinary senior management and economic talent that can meet the requirements of different industries. It offers all levels of degree programs, including bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes in Business Administration and strives to enhance students’ professional knowledge and skills and to improve their comprehensive analysis and leadership through a learning model that places emphasis on both theory and practice. In addition, in response to the development of the international situation and the shortage of international business elites, the Faculty of Business offered the International Business Cohort Program. With an aim to nurture business elites with forward-looking international horizons and strategic perspectives, the Program adopts the mentorship approach and uses English as the medium of instruction. The Faculty is the first business school to be awarded BGA Gold status accreditation in Macao.
The Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau strives to cultivate professionals for featured finance in order to respond to the Macao SAR Government’s strategy of building a financial services platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and developing a financial centre with distinctive features. The Faculty offers all levels of degree programs, including Bachelor of Applied Economics, MSc in Finance and PhD in Finance. It also offers the small-class Finance Elite Cohort Program taught in English and the Joint Certificate Program with the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants. The Faculty of Finance was set up in 2018. As a vigorous and vibrant rising star of the University, it keeps abreast of the demands and development trends of the financial services industry of Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to contribute to the regional development of featured finance. The Faculty is the first school of finance to be awarded BGA Silver status validation in Macao.
In the future, CityU Macau will continue to adhere to its strategy of “international vision + humanistic characteristics”, stand on a broader and more forward-looking global platform, capture diversified patterns and trends of the world’s humanistic development, leverage new technologies and new trends of the information era and give full play to the prospect and integration ability of the humanities to develop into an international metropolitan university, keeping up its efforts to cultivate practical and interdisciplinary talent for Macao, the Greater Bay Area and the country.
