He pointed out that finance, as a strategic field, will develop in connection with different disciplines, and thus, suggested that in addition to the professional knowledge of finance, students should also be involved in technology and knowledge of other fields to improve their all-round ability. As an independent faculty focusing on the financial field, the Faculty of Finance of CityU Macau has been cultivating high-end financial talents for the development of Macau’s financial industry since its establishment. He hoped that through this seminar, students will be able to grasp the development and employment prospects of Macau’s bond market, promote the construction of Macau’s financial talent pool, and enable more young people to devote to the modern financial industry.

During the seminar, Ms Tenny Ruan introduced the overview of offshore financing market and the current situation of Macau’s financial environment. She indicated that the financial industry, as the third largest industry in Macau, has increasingly become an important direction for the moderately diversified development of Macau’s economy. By introducing the environment of Macau’s financial market, policies, financial system, financial status, residents’ investment orientation, types of financial institutions and financial laws, she pointed out that there are huge potential and development opportunities for Macau to develop the financial industry, accelerating the construction of the bond market, and actively developing the wealth management business. Ms Ruan also stated that as a new starting point of offshore bond financing, Macau’s bond financing market is going through the process of “from nothing to existence, from existence to excellence”. She made a comparative analysis on the issuance currencies, terms, industries, interest rates, investor regions and categories of Macau’s bond market and international bond issuance in the past three years, and explained with data the current situation of Macau’s bond market and where/what needs to be improved.

During the Q&A session, the students took this valuable opportunity to actively pose questions about the bond market. Ms Ruan responded in detail and shared her views on the demand for talents in the bond market. She indicated that talents are the first element of development, and the future development of Macau’s financial market needs to cultivate talents from now on.
