In order to help students of the 2020 Bachelor of Applied Economics (BAE) program make better decisions on their concentration, the Faculty of Finance conducted a Concentration Selection Information Section on 4th May. This information session provided detailed information on each concentration field, which helped students better plan their future development and encouraged them to explore a concentration that will be more suitable for them.

To begin with, Dean Adrian Cheung gave a brief introduction to the development of the Faculty. The Faculty will admit more bachelor’s and master’s students in the upcoming academic year, and the number of academic staff will also increase, which shows the rapid development of the Faculty and he hoped that students can integrate and participate in it. He also introduced the academic staff and administrative staff of the Faculty one by one, so that the students can be more familiar with the academic research areas and administrative work scope of them.

Associate Dean Eva Khong mentioned that the feature of the Faculty is the teaching model that combines enterprise, learning and research. The Faculty cooperates with a lot of financial enterprises in the industry to jointly cultivate financial talents in Macau, including building a research base, promoting joint research between teachers and students, conducting academic seminars and enterprise visits, and providing summer internship opportunities, so that the students are equipped with their practical ability in addition to academic knowledge.

Later, Dr. Derick Lin, Course Coordinator of BAE Program, introduced the characteristics of the two concentrations (i.e. Finance and Economics), respectively, and detailed the setting and learning content in the third and fourth academic years. He also gave suggestions on the future employment and further study direction for the students after graduation, and explained the details and key points of the procedures for selecting a concentration.

Lastly, Dr. Gavin Wu, Course Coordinator of Graduate Program, stated that finance is the key development direction in the future and both finance and economics can help students move towards broad career prospects. Although the two concentrations are closely related disciplines, their research focuses are different. He urged the students to choose a concentration suitable for themselves, and emphasized that the requirements of the two professional fields are of the same academic rigor.

With the detailed explanation of the teachers, the students have a basic understanding of the subjects and advantages in the fields of Finance and Economics, and are ready to begin the preparation for the selection of concentration subjects in the coming academic year, looking forward to showing their strengths in the selected fields. After the information session, the Faculty prepared refreshments for teachers and students to further discuss and communicate. Associate Professor Shiyan Lou, Assistant Professor Liu Lu, Assistant Professor Lifei Xue, Assistant Professor Lamont Yu and Assistant Professor Di Li also attended the information session.
