On 10 November 2022, the Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macao held the Finance Seminar Series [9] Hengqin-Macao Cross-Border Finance Seminar – Third Talk at the Ho Yin Convention Centre. Mr Kun Wang, Deputy Director of Industrial Planning and Research Department of Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Development Company Limited, was invited to deliver a speech titled “Development Status and Future Opportunities of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin”. Guests attending this seminar include Dean Adrian Cheung and Associate Dean Eva Khong, City University of Macao.

Mr Wang explained the “Overall Plan for the Construction of Hengqin Guangdong Macao Deep Cooperation Zone” for the students. The Overall Plan, which was launched in 2021, aims to focus on competitive areas and subdivided industries, helping Macao develop its economy in a moderate and diversified way, enhancing its appeal to talents of all types, optimizing the economic development pattern of the Greater Bay Area, making good use of the Hengqin cooperation area, actively exploring the convergence of rules and mechanisms between the two places, and exploring experience for market integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. To promote the moderate and diversified development of Macao's economy including four major objectives (i.e., new platform, new space, new demonstration and new highland), four major tasks (i.e., new industry, new home, new system and new organization), as well as policy breakthroughs in enterprise income tax, individual income tax and Macao tax were undertaken. The Overall Plan clearly points out that in order to strengthen the integrated development with Macao, Hengqin has made a major adjustments in industrial direction, placing high-tech industry as the first industry and focusing on the real economy.

At the end of the sharing session, the students took this valuable opportunity to actively pose questions related to the policies of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and Mr Wang answered in detail. In the Seminar, students paid attention to the positioning of Hengqin Cooperation Zone, and gained a lot of knowledge through the financial seminar series. The students also expressed their expectations for the sharing of the next finance seminar.
