In order to promote the development of Macao’s fintech talents, assist the construction of Macao’s smart city, cultivate high-quality and versatile talents to be familiar with the international, mainland and local financial market conditions and proficient in scientific and technological innovation, and inject talented people into the construction of fintech in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macao) (ICBC) has set up a stage for the majority of Macao university students to show their talents. On the afternoon of September 28, 2022, at the Taipa campus of the City University of Macau, the Faculty of Finance assisted ICBC in holding a briefing session of the “2022 ‘ICBC Cup’ National University Student Fintech Innovation Competition, the 2nd Macau University Student Fintech Innovation Competition”, to give a professional pre-competition presentation to students of City University of Macau.
Mr. Lechi Deng gave a detailed introduction to the competition and the schedule, so that students could fully understand the submission form and grading criteria. He mentioned that participating in the competition will help the students in their future careers, including improving their project experience, presentation skills and knowledge application. Mr. Deng then provided a number of works and ideas for students’ reference, and suggested that students start from the scene or problems, and find opportunities in the background of the market situation and customer needs, so as to extend a set of design ideas and solutions of operation mode, and he also recommended to consider aspects related to resource investment and product benefits.
To encourage students to participate actively and grasp the valuable green channel for talent recruitment, Mr. Steven Lo specially mentioned the award setting. In particular, the creators or team members of the entries that won the first and second prizes will be given the opportunity to enter the ICBC Macao for internship. In the Q&A session, students responded enthusiastically with questions and inquiries about the competition. Mr. Deng and Mr. Lo answered in details and expressed their hope that the students of the Faculty of Finance of CityU will give a full play to their strengths and display excellent works in the competition.
Three groups of students from the Faculty of Finance participated in the competition last year and won the Excellence Award. The Faculty encouraged students to participate actively this year and expressed support for the second "ICBC Cup" competition.
