With the start of the 2024/2025 academic year, the Faculty of Finance at the City University of Macau welcomed the new cohort of students in the 2024 Elite Program in Applied Economics (English-taught). To help the new students quickly adapt to university life and experience the unique features of the all-English curriculum, the Faculty of Finance held its first ‘Elite Time’ Mentoring Day gathering on the morning of October 4. The event was invited Dean of the Faculty of Finance Adrian Cheung, Associate Dean Eva Khong, Program Director of the Elite Program Professor Markus Liebrecht, as well as the mentors and new students of the Elite Program.
During the gathering, Professor Markus delivered a welcome speech, noting that each new student will be assigned a mentor. The mentors will provide guidance and support in both academic and personal matters, encouraging students to actively communicate and engage with their mentors. If students have any questions regarding their studies, research, or future career planning, they are encouraged to seek advice from their mentors at any time. Professor Markus also highlighted the academic progress of past Elite Program students and recommended that students consider pursuing relevant master's programs after completing their undergraduate studies.
Following Dean of the Faculty of Finance Adrian Cheung opening remarks, he warmly welcomed the new students to the Faculty of Finance family during the first "Elite Time" gathering of the academic year. He emphasized that the purpose of the event was to establish a communication bridge between the new students of the Elite Program and their professors. Professor Markus then introduced the faculty members of the Finance Department, providing the students with deeper insights into their mentors' academic research areas.
In the second half of the event, students engaged in English discussions with their mentors in small groups, further enhancing interaction between the new students and the faculty members. The Faculty of Finance also prepared a selection of refreshments for, the participants to enjoy this harmonious gathering.
The event not only gave new students a glimpse into the culture of the Faculty of Finance but also laid a solid foundation for their future academic journey. The Faculty of Finance looks forward to sharing a fulfilling and enjoyable academic year with its new students.
