Academic Year 2025/2026 — Graduate Student Orientation Session

The Faculty of Finance successfully held the “2025/2026 Academic Year Graduate Student Orientation Session” on August 27 at the Cultural Center Theatre. The session featured presentations by Professor Adrian Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau; Associate Dean Associate Professor Eva Khong , PhD Program Director Professor Yonghong Zhou, and Master's Program Director Associate Professor Ting Yang. This orientation aims to introduce students to the Faculty of Finance's development history and its strengths in industry-academia-research collaboration, while providing detailed explanations of the master's and doctoral programs to deepen students' understanding of the faculty.

The orientation began with a welcome speech by Dean Cheung, who briefly outlined the faculty’s development history, teaching evaluations, teaching features, and future plans of Faculty of Finance. He emphasized the faculty’s continuous improvement in academic standards and teaching quality, which has gained international recognition. Looking ahead, the faculty will strive to further enhance its academic excellence and provide students with an optimal learning environment and resources. He encouraged students to actively engage in the faculty’s development. 

Next, Associate Dean Eva Khong introduced the faculty’s teaching model that integrates industry, academia, and research. She highlighted the strong connections between the faculty and various organizations and industries, which enrich students’ learning experiences and provide access to cutting-edge financial knowledge. She shared details of past activities such as exchange visits, lectures, seminars, summer workshops, certificate programs, and various training sessions. She encouraged students to actively participate in these events, which not only benefit academic learning but also foster collaboration and networking among peers.

Following that, Professor Yonghong Zhou provided an overview of the PhD in Finance program, covering key aspects such as curriculum structure, academic requirements, journal publication expectations, participation in academic events, and dissertation guidelines. He motivated students to pursue academic excellence with dedication and perseverance.

Associate Professor Ting Yang presented an overview of the Master’s in Finance and Master’s in Financial Technology programs. He explained the thesis requirements and shared students’ achievements in external competitions, exchange opportunities, and research outcomes, offering a deeper understanding of the curriculum and the diverse learning experiences at CityU Macau.

During the final Q&A session, students actively raised questions, which were warmly addressed by the dean and program directors. A tea reception followed, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. This orientation not only helped new students gain a clearer understanding of the Faculty of Finance and its academic expectations, but also strengthened the bond between faculty and students, fostering a sense of belonging and integration into university life.
