On May 18, 2026, Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau invited Ms. Catherine (Yingyi) Liu, Economics Publisher at Elsevier, to deliver a talk at the Golden Dragon Campus. The talk, titled “How to get published in Economics and Finance Journals: from the Publisher’s Perspective”, attracted a large number of faculty and students.
Ms. Catherine (Yingyi) Liu is a publisher of economics journals at Elsevier. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Birmingham, dual bachelor’s degrees from Queen Mary University of London and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and has over 10 years of experience in academic publishing, and is an experienced publisher at Elsevier. She currently in charge of 13 International Economics Journals, including renowned international publications such as “China Economic Review”, “Journal of Comparative Economics”, “Journal of Asian Economics”, and “International Economics”.
Ms. Liu began by introducing Elsevier’s role as a leading global academic publisher, noting that the company publishes 2,775 journals, collaborates with 130,000 external editors and 1.3 million reviewers annually, and holds an 18% share of the global research market, with citations accounting for 28% of the global total—demonstrating its significant academic influence. She provided an in-depth analysis of Elsevier’s journal publishing processes, peer review mechanisms, and journal structures, emphasizing the company’s commitment to building trust with the research community and supporting authors throughout the publication process. The discussion covered various aspects of academic publishing, including open access options, journal metrics (such as impact factors and CiteScores), and criteria for selecting editors-in-chief (including h-index threshold requirements).
During the Q&A session, attendees asked questions regarding submission limits for associate editors, journal classifications, and the importance of metrics in evaluating journal performance; Ms. Liu provided thoughtful answers to each query. Faculty and students from Faculty of Finance once again expressed their gratitude to Ms. Liu for her insightful presentation, noting that the lecture provided them with a deeper understanding of how to successfully publish in economics and finance journals.
