The Faculty of Finance successfully held the “2026/2027 Academic Year Graduate Student Orientation Session” on August 23 at the Cultural Center Theatre. The session featured presentations by Professor Adrian Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau, PhD Program Director Professor Yonghong Zhou, and Master's Program Director Associate Professor Ting Yang. This orientation aims to introduce students to the Faculty of Finance's development history and its strengths in industry-academia-research collaboration, while providing detailed explanations of the master's and doctoral programs to deepen students' understanding of the faculty.

The orientation began with a welcome speech by Dean Cheung, who briefly outlined the faculty’s development history, teaching evaluations, teaching features, and the faculty’s teaching model of industry-academia- research. He emphasized the faculty’s continuous improvement in academic standards and teaching quality, which has gained international recognition. Faculty of Finance has also established partnerships with renowned overseas universities, striving to provide students with optimal opportunities for integrated master's degree programs abroad. Dean Cheung also detailed the Faculty of Finance's distinctive features, such as collaborative activities, exchange visits, seminars, summer study programs, and joint research and publications involving local and regional financial regulatory bodies, industry professionals, and other universities. To ensure new students gain a comprehensive understanding of the Faculty of Finance, while encouraging them to actively participate in these activities and produce high-quality academic research.

Following that, Professor Yonghong Zhou provided an overview of the PhD in Finance program, covering key aspects such as curriculum structure, academic requirements, journal publication expectations, participation in academic events, and dissertation guidelines. He motivated students to pursue academic excellence with dedication and perseverance.

Associate Professor Ting Yang presented an overview of the Master’s in Finance and Master’s in Financial Technology programs. He explained the thesis requirements and shared students’ achievements in external competitions, exchange opportunities, and research outcomes, offering a deeper understanding of the curriculum and the diverse learning experiences at CityU Macau.

Following that, senior students share their experiences, Wang Jichao, class monitor and second-year PhD student in Finance, and Huang Yinnan, Master’s student in Finance, shared insights, offering new students a multi-faceted perspective on the keys to success while studying at the Faculty of Finance and in Macau. A tea reception followed, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.

This orientation not only helped new students gain a clearer understanding of the Faculty of Finance and its academic expectations, but also strengthened the bond between faculty and students, fostering a sense of belonging and integration into university life.
