The Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau recently convened its Quality Assurance Committee Meeting for the 2025/2026 academic year online. Bringing together leading academics, industry experts, and student representatives, the meeting reviewed programme performance, evaluated educational quality, and explored strategies for advancing curriculum innovation and talent development.

Committee members included Dr. Vincent W. K. Huen, Senior Treasurer of STDM Holdings Ltd.; Professor Jun Xie of South China University of Technology; and Professor Desmond Yuen of the University of Macau. The Faculty was represented by Dean Professor Adrian Cheung, Associate Dean Associate Professor Eva Khong, PhD Programme Coordinator Professor Yonghong Zhou, Master's Programme Coordinator Associate Professor Ting Yang, and BAE Programme Coordinator Associate Professor Deqin Lin, PhD Student Representative Jichao Wang, Master's Student Representative Yinglin Liang, and BAE Student Representative Yunwen Shen.

On behalf of the Faculty, Dean Cheung extended a warm welcome and expressed sincere appreciation to all committee members for their continued support over the past academic year. He also responded to recommendations raised during previous meetings and provided updates on the Faculty's ongoing quality enhancement efforts, including faculty development and recruitment, achievements in teaching, research, academic planning, and student learning outcomes. Associate Dean Eva Khong highlighted the Faculty's recent progress in industry-academia collaboration and international academic engagement. Key initiatives included academic forums, finance seminars, scholarly salons, corporate visits, summer finance study programmes, and university-industry partnership projects. These initiatives reflect the Faculty's commitment to experiential learning and the holistic development of students. Programme Coordinators Professor Yonghong Zhou (PhD Programme), Associate Professor Ting Yang (Master's Programme), and Associate Professor Deqin Lin (BAE Programme) subsequently presented comprehensive reports on programme performance, student learning outcomes, and quality assurance measures across their respective degree programmes.

During the discussion session, committee members offered valuable recommendations to further strengthen curriculum development. They encouraged the Faculty to incorporate emerging fields such as Financial Engineering and Digital Economics into its programmes while strengthening interdisciplinary learning in areas including advanced mathematical modelling, international financial law, and geopolitics. Such enhancements would help cultivate financial professionals with global perspectives and cross-disciplinary competencies.

Committee members also recommended drawing on Hong Kong's unique strengths as an international financial centre and its well-established common law system to integrate contemporary industry practices and real-world perspectives into classroom teaching. They highly commended the Faculty's recent achievements in internationalisation, research excellence, and student development.

Student representatives also shared their learning experiences and suggestions. PhD Student Representative Jichao Wang praised the Faculty's emphasis on academic excellence and industry engagement, and proposed expanding access to financial databases and leading academic journals to further support high-quality research. Master's Student Representative Yinglin Liang noted that the Faculty's integrated education model effectively bridges theoretical knowledge and professional practice, recommending additional practical training opportunities and coaching for professional competitions to further enhance students' career readiness. BAE Student Representative Yunwen Shen commended the well-designed curriculum and comprehensive learning resources, suggesting that undergraduate students be exposed to industry activities, study tours, and structured career planning at an earlier stage to strengthen their future competitiveness.

In conclusion, Dean Cheung once again thanked all participants for their valuable insights and constructive recommendations. He emphasised that the annual committee meeting serves as an important platform for gathering perspectives from academia, industry, and students, enabling the Faculty to continuously enhance educational quality and programme effectiveness. Looking ahead, the Faculty will systematically implement the recommendations discussed, further strengthen its quality assurance framework, and promote sustainable long-term development.
