On the afternoon of October 29, 2026, a group of doctoral students from the Faculty of Finance of City University of Macau visited the headquarters of Well Link Bank for an exchange and learning session. Ms. Sophia Huang, Vice President of Well Link Bank, and Ms. Joana Leong, Senior Director of the Strategic Customer Management Department, attended and served as keynote speakers. Distinguished guests included Dean Adrian Cheung and Associate Dean Eva Khong of the Faculty of Finance.
During the exchange, Ms. Huang delivered the keynote presentation. With extensive experience in cross-border bank management, she drew on her own career to provide a comparative analysis of the banking industries in four locations—mainland China, Macau, Thailand, and Pakistan—and shared three profound takeaways from her overseas work experience: first, regulatory red lines must never be crossed, and all business innovations must be built on a foundation of compliance; second, cultural differences must be respected, as the same management approach may not be effective in different countries; and third, a strong localized team must be established.
Ms. Leong, Senior Director, then gave a detailed introduction to Well Link Bank's development history and core businesses. Well Link Bank was established in 1996 and later renamed New Bank Asia; in 2017, it was acquired by Well Link Financial Group and renamed Well Link Bank. Ms. Leong highlighted the bank's service philosophy. She noted that Well Link Bank is the only bank in Macau that closes for just three days a year, offering services on weekends and public holidays. It is also the first bank in Macau to open a barrier-free branch in Nova Taipa Gardens. In just four years, Well Link has opened seven branches, with a network covering major communities across Macau. She also introduced the bank's securities services, insurance agency business (covering both life insurance and general insurance), and distinctive wealth management services such as the elderly community visit program launched in collaboration with Taiping Life Insurance (Macau).
The visit concluded successfully amid warm applause. Participating students said that the exchange not only deepened their understanding of the macroeconomic environment of the banking industries in the four locations and the practical logic of cross-border operations, but also left them with a lasting impression of Well Link Bank's innovative vitality and sense of social responsibility as a distinctive local bank in Macau, providing valuable inspiration for their future academic research and career development. The faculty and students of the Faculty of Finance expressed their sincere gratitude to Well Link Bank for its meticulous arrangements and professional sharing, which provided students with a valuable learning opportunity. The students also expressed the hope that the faculty will organize more such exchange activities in the future, further building a bridge between academia and the financial industry to help students broaden their horizons and apply what they have learned.
