On the morning of August 22, 2019, the orientation for the first-year undergraduates of Faculty of Finance was held in Room N202 of Choi Kai Yau Building, City University of Macau. Lam Tak Yam, the person in charge of the curriculum for undergraduates, warmly welcomed the freshmen to Faculty of Finance of CityU. First, Lam gave a brief introduction to the curriculum of the bachelor’s degree in applied economics. According to him, the students acquire the fundamental knowledge of economy and finance and receive the analytical and quantitative training on banking, financial analysis and investment in the first two years. In addition, he said that Finance Elite Cohort consists of 20 students and all the lectures are given in English after the modification of the curriculum of applied economics. During the first two academic years, the undergraduates are expected to become clear about their strengths and weaknesses and make further progress in the fulfilment of their objectives. In the third college year, they need to choose a research direction – economics or finance to delve deeper into the selected field. The designated research direction for the students in Finance Elite Cohort in the third academic year is finance. This offers a fundamental pragmatic training on banking and financial profession to the students specializing in finance for a bachelor’s degree in applied economics, a program designed to develop the special financial services like financing, leasing, green finance and wealth management of Macao. The combination of the core subjects about economics and the quantitative analysis provides pragmatic and operational knowledge and data-analysis skills necessary for the students majoring in economics for a bachelor’s degree in applied economics who aim to work in a governmental department, a supervisory institution or a financial organization.

Then, the teachers from Faculty of Finance gave some suggestions to the students. For instance, students should raise questions if they encounter something confusing in class. This will bring them more knowledge than those who are reluctant to ask questions. Finally, all the lecturers and administrative staff of Faculty of Finance wished the freshmen a happy and fruitful campus life.
