On the afternoon of 22 August, 2019, the orientation for the first-year graduates of Faculty of Finance was held in Room N202 of Choi Kai Yau Building, City University of Macau. Khong Yueng Wah, the Associate Dean of Faculty of Finance of CityU, extended warm welcome to the students. First, Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah gave a brief introduction to Macao as a centre of special finance. Special finance mainly covers financing, releasing, the Sino-Portuguese RMB clearing centre, green finance, and financial service, management and technology. City University of Macau is a platform of training financial talents, and its responsibility is to accelerate the education on special finance. To date, Macao has always functioned as a financial city with distinctive Chinese and Portuguese characteristics, and Faculty of Finance will serve as a vanguard for the rapid financial development of the city in the future. The faculty offers courses for students seeking a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree. The courses for the students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree are newly-established ones based on special finance. Following the suggestion on curriculum revision by Higher Education Bureau, the faculty has converted some courses originally designed for undergraduates, such as Creative Economy, Cultural Economy and Urban Economy, into the ones about financial economy.

According to Associate Dean Khong, the courses for the master’s and doctoral degrees are also based on special finance and designed to improve the education on special finance of Macao and train the financial talents of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Featuring experience-oriented learning, Faculty of Finance adopts the principle of combining enterprises, students, teachers and researches in teaching. At its founding, the faculty established a close strategic partnership with multiple enterprises. Aside from encouraging students to visit these enterprises, it offers summer research study programs and overseas exchange activities to students. Moreover, students are taught practical financial skills before graduation so that they can adapt themselves to careers as soon as possible. As finance is an industry with rapid changes, the faculty not only imparts students the knowledge of the state-owned financial enterprises in China but also requires them to keep themselves abreast of the financial and economic development of the world. Besides, students are expected to acquire theories and, more importantly, undertake interactive learning in off-campus learning, as they will do in workplace. The teachers will lead students to visit different enterprises outside the campus, where students will not only have a deeper understanding of theories but obtain financial skills and develop important abilities like logical thinking and exploration as well. The training for students must be in tune with the economic development of the times and the fostering of the financial talents in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The students of Faculty of Finance must have some knowledge of regional finance and a financial and economic view on the world and Mainland China.
