On the afternoon of 11 November 2021, the Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macau held the Finance Seminar Series [9], themed “Analysis of Cross-Border E-Commerce Finance and Capital Chain Management”, at the Ho Yin Convention Centre. Mr Danton Lin, Co-Founder of Skyee, a cross-border payment platform, was invited as a guest speaker. The seminar was attended by Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah of the Faculty of Finance and doctoral students of the year 2021.

Mr Danton Lin is currently the CEO of Skyee. Before that, he served as the Deputy General Manager of the International Business Department of the Bank of East Asia and a senior product specialist at Alibaba. He is an expert in cross-border payment and trade financing. Mr Lin has been deeply involved in cross-border payment services for years and has a profound understanding of and rich experience in cross-border e-commerce financial services.

By introducing his entrepreneurial experience in cross-border payment services and the current rapid development of cross-border e-commerce, Mr Lin made students aware of the unprecedented prospects and opportunities facing cross-border finance. According to Mr Lin, the fragmented and outdated financial supervision system has provided infinite opportunities and space for emerging cross-border payment integration. Emerging cross-border payment services connect the services of global financial institutions with new technologies, removing the barriers and making cross-border capital flow safer and more efficient. Capital is a crucial factor supporting the development of cross-border e-commerce. The security and stability of cross-border supply chain finance guarantees the sustainable development of cross-border e-commerce, and safe, efficient and convenient cross-border payment services have become a new driving force enhancing cross-border e-commerce. Mr Lin also pointed out that China’s cross-border e-commerce has bucked the trend despite the raging pandemic, and that cross-border financial and payment services have realised two-way capital flows between China and the rest of the world while optimising capital turnover and improving capital management efficiency for cross-border e-commerce companies.

At the end, students eagerly raised questions and progressively exchanged ideas with Mr Lin on cross-border e-commerce finance and other related topics, which helped them gain a deeper understanding of cross-border e-commerce finance and capital chain management.
