To cultivate students’ literature retrieval ability and to have a clearer understanding of plagiarism, the Faculty of Finance and the Library of City University of Macau held one more EndNote software and Turnitin system training session on 17 November, with the participation of a group of dotoral students of 2022 from the Faculty of Finance. Ms. Ka Wun Cheang of the Library, City University of Macau, introduced the use of the EndNote X9 software and Turnitin system to the students.
Turnitin is an internationally renowned system of paper originality comparison, which includes the operation of checking the similarity of papers and guiding modification. Ms. Cheang explained the operation steps of Turnitin in four parts with a synchronous display, including setting up an account, joining the class, finding the similarity of paper and checking the report.
EndNote is an efficient bibliographic document management software. Ms Cheang detailed the whole process of using EndNote for students to participate in and improve scientific research, which is mainly divided into four parts: document import, management, arrangement and submission. She also demonstrated the process from creating and managing of a personal EndNote library, to citation management in Word, and matching the most appropriate journal submission to give students a clearer picture of each step.
The Faculty of Finance expressed gratitude to the City University of Macau Library for its excellent arrangement of relevant training and literature information, as well as to Ms. Cheng's careful guidance. The students expressed that the training had a great effect on the writing skills of the thesis, and also had a great help for the upcoming opening report. They have benefited from the training session, and looked forward to participating in more relevant training.
