The 2025 Academic Research Quarterly Seminar was held on the morning of January 17, 2025, at the Ho Yin Conference Center, HG01, Taipa Campus. This seminar is organized by the Research Management Office, with this particular lecture organized by the Faculty of Finance. The guest speaker was Professor Chien-Chiang Lee from Nanchang University, and the theme was "Academic Paper Writing and Publishing from the Perspective of an International Journal Editor." The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor WeiPing Li, and Professor Adrian (Wai Kong) Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance, presented a souvenir.
Professor Chien-Chiang Lee is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Nanchang University. He was previously a tenured professor at Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, China. Since joining Nanchang University in 2019, he has focused on energy economics, green finance, and low-carbon economy. He has been recognized as an innovative leading talent under Jiangxi Province's "Double Thousand Plan." He is currently a fellow of the International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI), a distinguished talent at Nanchang University, and the head of the International Energy Economics and Finance Research Team. He has published over 370 academic papers in international journals (SSCI/SCI), authored three monographs, and has been cited 13,654 times with an H-index of 77. He has 53 "ESI Highly Cited Papers (Top 1%)" and 34 "ESI Hot Papers (Top 0.1%)." He is currently an associate editor for renowned journals such as Energy Economics, Applied Economics, and Economic Analysis and Policy; a subject editor for Emerging Markets Finance and Trade; and an editor for Innovation and Green Development.
Professor Chien-Chiang Lee shared his insights on academic paper writing from an editor's perspective, providing detailed explanations on selecting research topics, submitting papers, and revising manuscripts after acceptance. He emphasized the importance of choosing the target journal before selecting a topic and aligning the writing process with the journal's attributes. He also suggested checking the journal's website for recent special issue calls and submitting papers on relevant topics to increase the chances of acceptance. Regarding manuscript revisions, Professor Lee advised students to respond to reviewers' comments point by point, analyze each comment in detail, and use relevant literature to support their arguments, providing substantial evidence and adhering to revision timelines.
During this seminar, Professor Lee generously shared key points on paper submission with the faculty and students of City University of Macau. Attendees also sought Professor Lee's guidance on challenges they encountered during submission, and he provided thoughtful directions and advice.
