On 20 March 2025, the Doctoral Student Peers’ Research Sharing Session organized by the Faculty of Finance of City University of Macau was successfully held in Room G2213, 22/F, Golden Dragon Campus. Prof. Adrian Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance, Prof. Zhou Yonghong and all 24th year PhD students participated in the event. Three representatives of the senior PhD students in Finance shared their academic research journey and experience, which was characterized by a strong academic atmosphere and interactive exchanges.

At the beginning of the event, Dean Cheung pointed out in his speech that academic research needs to be rooted in the intersection of real problems and theoretical innovation, and encouraged doctoral students to form a healthy academic ecology through peer support. Prof. Zhou, Director of PhD finance program, used the metaphor of “academics is an endurance run” to emphasize the importance of continuous accumulation and teamwork, which set a pragmatic and realistic tone for the event.

Miss Siqi Zhang, a PhD student in the class of 2023, is supervised by Dean Cheung, whose research interests include green finance, inclusive finance, corporate investment and financing, and women's labor force. She has published a Q1 paper in Energy Economics on “Are Green Finance and Inclusive Finance Complements or Substitutes for MSMEs? from China's Green Finance Reform and Innovation Pilot Zone”. Miss Zhang combined her research practice in the field of green finance and systematically explained her experience in selecting topics and obtaining data for her dissertation.

Mr. Longsheng Wu, PhD student of 2022, is supervised by Prof. Jun Xie, whose research interests include sustainable finance and policy evaluation, digital economy and financial innovation, and governance of regional economy and globalization. He has published a Q1 paper in Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management on “Mandatory Disclosure and Corporate ESG Performance Evidence from China's Explanation for Nondisclosure Requirement” and another paper in Hong Kong and Macao Studies on “Reflections on Macao's Diversified Economic Development under the Perspective of Public Attention in Society” Analyzing the whole process of writing the paper, Mr. Wu shared the logic of the research design from the reading of policy white papers, literature metrics analysis to the construction of empirical models.

Mr. Peiyan Yin, PhD student of 2022, is supervised by Prof. Zhou Yonghong, whose research interests include development economics, environmental economics and corporate finance. He has published a Q1 paper in Economic Analysis and Policy “Does Tax Refund Policy Boost Executive Compensation?” and some papers currently under review with Economic Behavior & Organization, and Economic Modelling. Mr. Yin focused on the two basic competencies of data management and literature research in the meeting.

During the open discussion session, the first year PhD students asked a lot of questions about the bottleneck of data acquisition, the basis of model selection and other practical issues. The three speakers answered the questions one by one based on their own research experience. Thanks to the selfless sharing and warm tips from the three seniors, the event was a great success, which enabled the students to avoid a lot of 'stepping on the pit' experience and take a lot of detours.
