On 19 September 2025, Stanford University and the Elsevier Data Repository jointly released the World's Top 2% Scientists list of 2025. Thirteen professors from City University of Macau were ranked among the world's top 2% scientists. The list comprises two main sections: the “Single-Year Scientific Impact List” and the “Career-Long Scientific Impact List”, designed to assess scientists' academic influence both in the preceding year and throughout their entire academic careers. Among the distinguished scientists, Professor Adrian (Wai Kong) Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance, and Professor Chien-Chiang Lee were once again honored on the “Single-Year Scientific Impact List”, while Professor Chien-Chiang Lee was simultaneously honored on the “Career-Long Scientific Impact List”, recognizing his sustained contributions to the field.
The World’s Top 2% Scientists List is compiled using Scopus database data, employing a comprehensive scoring system based on key metrics including total citations, h-index, hm-index, and citation counts for articles where the scholar is sole, first, or last author. Covering 22 fields and 174 subfields, it objectively and authentically reflects scholars' academic influence. Both professors have been ranked among the top 2% of scientists in the world since 2022 indicating that they have reached the top level in the fields of economy and business. Their outstanding contributions have significantly advanced the development of these disciplines and reflect a global influence. In the future, Faculty of Finance will continue strengthen fundamental research in frontier sciences, enhance the capabilities of our faculty team and the high-quality development of discipline construction.
