On October 8, 2025, Faculty of Finance, City University of Macau held a seminar for its "Elite Cohort," featuring a sharing session themed "Your Finance Journey Begins with the CFA Society Hong Kong." Guests attending included Mr. Wallace Cheung, Executive Director of CFA Society Hong Kong; Dr. Lewis Tam, Mr. Jonathan Leong, and Dr. Susan Ma, representatives of Macau Sub-committee; as well as Associate Dean Eva Khong and Professor Markus Leibrecht from Faculty of Finance.

At the beginning of the seminar, Professor Markus welcomed the representatives from CFA Society Hong Kong. He expressed his hope that students would use this event to clarify the core skills required in the finance field early on, laying a solid foundation for subsequent course learning and career planning. He also encouraged students to gain awareness and set expectations for their academic and career development, transforming these expectations into concrete growth plans. The Faculty will organize more related lectures to broaden students' horizons and help them find their most suitable career paths.

Mr. Wallace Cheung expressed his pleasure in visiting the City University of Macau to introduce and share information about the CFA program. He provided a detailed overview of CFA Society Hong Kong, explained how to become a student member of the CFA Institute and the resources and assistance available to student members, and outlined the arrangements for the CFA exam and study groups. Additionally, he specifically mentioned that CFA study groups are currently only established in Hong Kong, but there are active considerations to form local study groups in Macau in the future. This initiative aims to provide more convenient support services (such as mock exams, preparation seminars, etc.) for Macau students, further lowering the barriers to preparing for the exam.

Mr. Jonathan Leong focused on the Certificate in ESG Investing (formerly known as the ESG Investing Certificate), systematically introducing the exam's core content, registration timelines, exam fee structure, and the current number of global certificate holders. This provided students with a diversified direction for enhancing their financial capabilities.

Dr. Lewis Tam shared insights into the CFA Institute's university partnership programs and the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Drawing from his personal experience preparing for the CFA exams and mentoring students in the challenge, he offered students professional and practical reference advice.

Dr. Susan Ma introduced the basic overview of the CFA Macau Chapter and various professional forums and leisure activities recently organized by the Society in Macau, helping students understand the resources and dynamics of the local finance professional community.

During the Q&A session, freshmen actively asked questions centered on core topics such as "CFA exam passing strategies and preparation techniques," "The competitive advantage of the CFA charter in finance job hunting," "How to align university coursework with CFA preparation," and "The specific arrangements for study groups." The guest speakers, combining current trends in the financial industry with their personal practical experiences, patiently addressed each question. This not only resolved students' doubts but also helped them form a clearer and more concrete understanding of professional growth paths in finance, providing strong guidance for the students as they embark on their financial learning journey.
