【Finance Elite Time】Finance Elite Cohort Year One Students Gathering

September 2022 is the start month for CityU freshmen and the Faculty of Finance welcomes its freshmen of the 2022 BAE Finance Elite Cohort. On September 16, the Faculty of Finance held “Finance Elite Time: 2022-2023 Mentorship Program”, the first activity for the freshmen of Finance Elite Cohort students in order to help them adapt to university life and experience the characteristics of Elite Cohort. Dean Adrian Cheung, Associate Dean Eva Khong, Course Coordinator of Graduate Program Yonghong Zhou, Course Coordinator of BAE Program Deqin Lin, teachers from Faculty of Finance and Elite Cohort students attended this event together.

 

In his speech, Dean Adrian Cheung said that this was the first time this academic year to hold a Finance Elite Time event, and welcomed students to join the family of the Faculty of Finance. He mentioned two keywords to the students. The first is Experiential Learning, hoping that apart from academic learning, students would seize the opportunities provided by the University and the Faculty to participate in more visits, research and exchange activities, so as to strengthen their practical capabilities through experience; Another keyword is the Finance Laboratory. The Faculty of Finance has set up a Finance Laboratory to provide a learning and training platform for students. Students are advised to make good use of the software and equipment in the Laboratory to develop their financial practice ability and comprehensive quality through diversified and autonomous teaching modes. Dean Cheung then introduced the academic staff and administrative staff of the faculty one by one, so that the students can be more familiar with the academic research areas and administrative work scope of them.

 

Later, Associate Dean Eva Khong mentioned that the Finance Elite Cohort focuses on developing students’ English language and cross-cultural communication skills, opening up their international horizons, and enabling them to understand the differences between different financial business environments and cultures. She welcomed the new students to join the Elite Cohort and hoped that through this gathering, the students would quickly get to know and adapt to the faculty. Teachers and fellow students, find a sense of belonging and grow into professional financial talents in the next four years.

 

Professor Zhou, Course Coordinator of Graduate Program, then introduced his research and teaching direction to the students and said that they could consult him if they had any questions about their studies, research or future career planning. He also gave a brief introduction to the existing Master’s and PhD programs and added that two new Master’s programs would be offered, including FinTech and Wealth Management. Assistant Professor Derick Lin, Course Coordinator of BAE Program, introduced the features of the Finance Elite Cohort Mentorship Program to the incoming Juniors and how it can help them in various ways. The pairing of incoming students with teachers enables them to receive early and proper guidance so that they can better adapt to the future all English teaching modes and exchange activities.

 

Afterward, all students discussed and exchanged ideas in English with their respective tutors to facilitate communication among them, and refreshments were served to further exchange and enjoy the time together. It was a great opportunity for them to get to know each other and strengthen the bonding of the class. The event was also attended by Associate Professor Yinggui Wang, Associate Professor Gavin Wu, Associate Professor Shiyan Lou, Assistant Professor Liu Lu, Assistant Professor Lifei Xue, Assistant Professor Bo Yu, Assistant Professor Lamont Yu, Assistant Professor Di Li, Assistant Professor Lin Deng and Lecturer Simon Sou.
