The Faculty of Finance at City University of Macau hosted an information session titled “CFA Certification: Opening the Door to Global Finance Careers” on September 10, 2026. The event welcomed distinguished guests including Mr. Wallace Cheung, Chairman of the CFA Society Hong Kong University Outreach Committee (Macau Chapter); Mr. Redfield Cheung, Vice-Chairman; Mr. Frankie Sezto and Mr. Jonathan Leong, Representatives of the Macau Chapter; Professor Adrian Cheung, Dean of the Faculty of Finance; and Assistant Professor Ma Xingshu.
In his opening remarks, Dean Cheung extended a warm welcome to the representatives of the CFA Society Hong Kong. He expressed his hope that students would gain a deeper understanding of how the CFA qualification can support both academic development and career advancement in finance. He also encouraged students to participate actively in the CFA Institute Research Challenge and to plan their future studies and careers with foresight.
Mr. Wallace Cheung introduced the CFA Society Hong Kong, one of the largest local CFA societies in the Asia-Pacific region. He highlighted the Society’s role in providing members with access to the latest industry insights, professional networking opportunities, and knowledge exchange. He encouraged students to join as student members, thereby gaining access to resources comparable to those available to regular members. He also provided detailed information on the CFA Program curriculum, examinations, registration procedures, fees, and scholarship opportunities.
Mr. Redfield Cheung presented the Society’s dedicated study group services, designed to support candidates in preparing for the CFA examinations. Each group is guided by two CFA charterholders who serve as mentors, with regular mock examinations organized to help candidates evaluate and strengthen their readiness. He further encouraged students to become CFA Student Ambassadors, promoting awareness of the CFA Program among peers, and introduced the upcoming 2026–2027 CFA Institute Research Challenge.
Mr. Jonathan Leong shared insights into the professional networking and recreational activities organized by the Society in Macau, drawing on his own experience in the fund management industry. Mr. Frankie Sezto, an investment banking professional, also shared his career journey, emphasizing how the CFA qualification had contributed to his professional growth.
Adding a student perspective, Mr. Cao Tianyu, Captain of the CityU Macau team in the 2025–2026 CFA Institute Research Challenge, reflected on his experience in the competition and explained how CFA-related activities had supported his career planning.
During the interactive Q&A session, students engaged actively with the guest speakers, raising questions on CFA exam preparation and career development in finance. The speakers responded with detailed and practical guidance, helping students gain a clearer understanding of pathways for professional growth in the financial industry.
