With the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, the Faculty of Finance at the City University of Macau welcomed the new 2026 Finance Elite Cohort students. To help the students quickly adapt to university life and experience the unique features of Elite Cohort program, the Faculty held the Mentoring Day on 16th September, 2026. The event was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Finance – Professor Adrian Cheung, Program Director of the Finance Elite Cohort Programme Professor Markus Leibrecht, as well as the mentors and the new cohort students.

Dean Adrian Cheung delivered the opening remarks, extending a warm welcome to the new students as they joined the Faculty of Finance family. He proudly highlighted the Faculty’s recent achievements in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Glbal Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), where Finance ranked 1st in Macau, 22nd in China , and within the top 100 globally, while Economics also secured 1st in Macau, 27th in China, and entered the top 200 globally. Dean Cheung emphasized that as members of the Finance Elite Cohort, students are part of this exceptional family and should take immense pride in being part of such a distinguished program.

Following the opening speech, Professor Markus addressed the students to elaborate on the essence and purpose of mentorship. He announced the mentor assignments for the students and outlined the upcoming event schedule for the 2026 2027 academic year. Professor Markus also shared the outstanding postgraduate placement outcomes of the 2026 graduating class, highlighting that the vast majority secured master’s program offers from prestigious institutions – including 9 graduates admitted to QS TOP 50 World Universities and 4 to QS TOP 51 – 100 World Universities. Additionally, a video sharing session featuring insights and advice from a senior cohort student, Sun Bingbing was screened for the students.

The event proceeded with self-introductions from each faculty mentor, allowing students to gain deeper insights into their mentors' academic research fields and backgrounds. Afterwards, all faculty members and the students gathered for a group photo to mark this precious moment.

In the second half of the event, students were encouraged in discussions with their mentors, further enhancing interaction between the new students and the faculty members. The Faculty also prepared some refreshments for the participants to enjoy this harmonious gathering.

The event not only gave new students a glimpse into the culture of the Faculty of Finance but also laid a solid foundation for their future academic journey. The Faculty of Finance looks forward to sharing a fulfilling and enjoyable academic year with its new students.
