CityU Hosts a Lecture themed "Global Trend of Financial Technology and the Inspiration from the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area"

  On 10 October, the lecture themed "Global Trend of Financial Technology and the Inspiration from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" by the Faculty of Finance of CityU was held in the Ho Yin Convention Centre. Dr Toa CHARM, an associate professor from Business School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the director of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business was invited as the guest speaker.

  Dr Toa CHARM has engaged himself in such industries as innovation and entrepreneurship, financial technology, artificial intelligence and big data and has accumulated abundant experience in management, entrepreneurship and training for over 30 years. He used to work as an executive in a number of famous transnational, Hong Kong and mainland companies offering technological and financial services. Moreover, he was invited to serve as a consultant by some universities, enterprises and public interest institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Asia-Pacific region.

  This lecture focused on four topics – "The Development and Trend of Financial Technology", "The Innovation and Application of Financial Technology Enterprises", "The Biosphere of Financial Technology" and "The Development of Financial Technology and the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area". Dr Toa CHARM mentioned that as the implementation of the development strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has picked up pace, financial technological innovation has become a focus at present, financial technology is significantly changing a number of traditional financial service companies, and many leading traditional organizations offering financial services have been confronted with the challenges from financial technology start-ups.

  In addition, Dr Toa CHARM said that the value of the innovation and application of financial technology is based on the weaknesses of markets and that big data and artificial intelligence have been extensively applied to financial technologies and services. Besides, he shared some unique views on the financial biosphere and financial supervision.

  After that, the teachers and the students in the auditorium raised some questions concerning financial supervision and supporting polices and shared their opinions.
