To assist the undergraduate students of Faulty of Finance to adapt to university life quickly and have a basic understanding of the Faculty’s courses and activities, the Orientation for the first-year undergraduates of Faculty of Finance was held in Luso-Chinese Building on October 14, 2020. Dean Adrian Cheung, Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah and teachers from Faculty of Finance attended this orientation.
Dean Adrian Cheung, on behalf of the Faculty of Finance, sent cordial greetings to all freshmen and welcomed them to join the big family of the Faculty.To begin with, he briefly introduced the development of the faculty, pointing out that the Faculty of Finance of the City University of Macau is currently the only faculty of finance in Macau. In recent years, the academic level and teaching quality of the Faculty have been continuously improved, and it has been widely recognized by the society. After that, Dean Cheung encouraged every student to develop a proactive learning attitude in the following four years and take an active part in participating in activities on campus and off the campus, where teachers of the faculty would do their best to help every student. Finally, Dean Cheung expected all the freshmen to achieve academic success in their studies and show their talents in the near future.
Associate Dean Khong Yueng Wah, also warmly welcomed the freshmen and introduced the teaching concept of the combining of enterprises, learning, teaching and research, as well as the academic activities of the Faculty, showing experiential learning as the core teaching focus. It is expected that more excellent financial talents can be cultivated through diversified teaching learning experience.
Dr. Lin Deqin, the undergraduate program coordinator, gave a brief introduction to the curriculum and subjects of the bachelor’s degree in applied economics They include theoretical foundation courses:microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, public finance, industrial economics, etc.; applied skills and methods courses: accounting, econometrics, game theory, business mathematics and statistics, etc.; and theoretical application courses: contemporary Chinese economy, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation research, Macao regional economic research, etc.. In addition, he also mentioned relevant professional certificates or diplomas available in finance, encouraging students to grasp the four-year study time wisely, better prepare themselves, and continuously improve their knowledge and professional skills.
Mr. Zhang Zhonghan, a senior in Applied Economics, shared his experience and views of his studies in the Faculty of Finance, encouraging the undergraduates to study hard and plan ahead for a good study life. Finally, he wished all the freshmen a wonderful university life.
A total of more than 60 applied economics undergraduates attended the Orientation, including 21 students from the Elite Cohort. Through the briefing, the freshmen were guided to moving away from high school life to gradually adapting to university life and establishing a good relationship with their teachers, helping them to enjoy a full and wonderful academic study on campus in the future.
