Mr. Chen Derio stated that Macau would enter a period of economic adjustment due to the impact of the epidemic. He hoped that this academic forum would bring together all social classes to provide good strategies for the development of Macao.
In the forum, five speakers focused on: "Discussion on Macao's Political System and Economic Diversification", "The Dilemma of Quality Improvement in Tourism Industry", "Difficulty in Optimizing Commercial Projects in Portuguese-speaking Countries", and "The positioning problem of integrating into Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, "Macao Government Fiscal Revenue Decline and Future Planning Constraints" , in order to inspire new thinking and new perspectives, and to provide suggestions on the direction of Macao's future economic development.
Mr. Ung Choi Kun pointed out that Macau’s economy would still be impacted by the epidemic. Macau should continue to promote domestic demand and develop more diversified industries to prepare for the cessation of the epidemic in the future. He believed that it would help promote Macau’s economic development.
Mr. José Maria Pereira Coutinho said that due to the impact of the epidemic, government revenue had been greatly reduced. In the future, it is necessary to reconsider whether various expenditures are reasonable. At the same time, it is necessary to accelerate the construction of a trade platform between Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries, and make better use of the platform to provide more economic development for Macao.
Mr. Liang Sun Xu mentioned that Macau’s industrial structure is too simple, and its disadvantages are obvious under the epidemic. He believed that Macau should promote economic diversification in the future and suggested that continued promotion in the traditional Chinese medicine industry, Sino-Portuguese trade, and specialty finance will be beneficial to the long-term development of Macau.
Director Lin Huibin believed that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area welcomes young people from Hong Kong and Macau to develop their career. He recommended that young people from Hong Kong and Macau take the initiatives to learn about the Bay Area. Apart from starting a business, they can also find employment in the Bay Area. The Bay Area will continue to provide services and opportunities to the youth of Hong Kong and Macau and encourage everyone to take the first step.
Guests such as Mr. Zhou Wanliang from the Trade Division of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Liaison Office of Macau, Ms. Xu Dongmei of the Macau Higher Education Bureau, and the Commercial Counselor of the Portuguese Consulate General were also invited to attend the forum.
